Passive Infrastructure Sharing: How Neutral Hosts Speed Up Network Rollouts

Passive Infrastructure Sharing: How Neutral Hosts Speed Up Network Rollouts

Building telecom networks is expensive, and much of the cost sits in passive infrastructure: towers, poles, ducts, fibre, shelters and power systems that do not carry signals themselves but make everything else possible. Sharing that infrastructure among operators lowers cost and speeds up rollout.

What counts as passive infrastructure

  • Towers, monopoles and roof-top poles.
  • Ducts, dark fibre and right-of-way.
  • Shelters, cabinets and equipment rooms.
  • Power systems, batteries, DG sets and earthing.

Why sharing makes sense

  • Lower capex and opex: one structure and power system serves several tenants.
  • Faster deployment: site acquisition and permissions are handled once.
  • Fewer structures: less visual clutter and fewer approvals for cities and building owners.
  • Densification: 5G needs many more sites, which is only economical when shared.

The neutral host model

A neutral host builds and operates infrastructure independently of any single operator and leases capacity to all of them on fair terms. In India, infrastructure providers typically register with the Department of Telecommunications as IP-I providers to offer such passive assets.

What to look for in a partner

Site-acquisition capability, structural and electrical engineering, reliable power uptime and responsive field maintenance matter more than the number of sites on a slide.

Ubixe Infotech builds and maintains operator-neutral passive infrastructure. Learn about our Passive Infra service or discuss a rollout.
